Bugweri chief disowns apology to Speaker Among

Mr Samuel Nkuutu Zirabamuzaale, the hereditary chief of Bugweri, says his chiefdom is apolitical and does not meddle in any politics of the day.

The Busoga hereditary Chief of Obwa Menha bwa Bugweri, Samuel Nkuutu Ziribamuzaale, has distanced himself from an apology letter written by the Third Deputy Prime Minister of his chiefdom, Mwamadi Mugwisa.

The apology, endorsed by 30 supposed clan leaders from Bugweri, castigated National Unity Platform deputy spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro for asking Speaker of Parliament Anita Among to back off criticism of her predecessor Rebecca Kadaga.

The group went ahead to seek an audience with Ms Among to make their apology formally.

But in his Monday, April 8 letter, Chief Nkuutu notes that his chiefdom is apolitical and does not meddle in any politics of the day.

"We as the Chiefdom of Bugweri under the Obwa Kyabazinga Bwa'Busoga, it has come to our knowledge that there's a letter on social media claiming to be an apology on behalf of Bugweri Chiefdom," Nkuuto, who is also the Chief Prince of Busoga Kingdom, said.

"This is not true and we distance ourselves from such issues."

He said his chiefdom is not part of he purported apology to Speaker Among.

"Please, whoever tried to take us into politics is personating our true image. We are a cultural institution not involved in any matters of politics," he added.

"We are warning anybody to stop using our chiefdom headed paper in such matters and misrepresenting Obwa Menha Bwa Bugweri," reads the letter signed by Chief Nkuutu in person.

Mr Mugwisa's apology letter has sparked a widespread condemnation on social media in Busoga Kingdom.

Although  Chief Nkuutu did not reveal which portfolio Mr Mugwisa holds in his chiefdom, Nile Post has learnt that he is a minister without portfolio in the office of Menha wa Bugweri.

The issue surrounding Speaker Among is throwing Busoga sub-region into a political whirlwind with no idea the direction it is taking since at the centre of it all is Ms Among's attempt to prop herself up as the figurehead in Busoga.

First Deputy Prime minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs Rebecca Kadaga has been the stalwart in the sub-region over the last two decades.

But while fighting back intense scrutiny over gross corruption in the Speaker's Chambers, Ms Among accused unnamed persons of "wanting to take back the Speaker's seat'.

She also went to Buyende, a remote district of Busoga and home to her husband Moses Magogo, and went bare knuckles, accusing "old women from Kamuli" of not wanting the area to develop.

Ms Kadaga has never addressed herself on the utterances and suggestions that Speaker Among's diatribe are aimed at her person.
